Motorola's mobile smell-o-phone

Motorola, manufacturer of mobile phone handsets, has sought and been granted a patent for adding scent capability to phone calls. Using a special, inbuilt cartridge, almost identical to the Scent Dome, a PC smell system, the proposed, patented system works in the exact same way: at a coded signal, it heats the required section(s) of a special cartridge, so as to release a combination of smells to make the desired aroma.
The patent notes that it might not be necessary to modify a phone's design. Tests by Motorola have demonstrated that the power amplifier in current designs reaches about 60?C - hot enough to activate the fragrance in a disposable gel sachet.
