November 28 – December 1, 2012
Hong Kong, China

After successful runs in Singapore, Japan and South Korea, the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) brings digital innovations from around the globe to Hong Kong, in Asia’s biggest gathering of artists, designers, researchers, scientists, manufacturers and developers.

Over four days, the computer graphics and interactive techniques communities in Hong Kong and the world over will have the opportunity to interact and discover the best innovations, ideas and inventions from top names in the digital arena.

At the SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 Special Sessions program, up to three internationally-acclaimed animation and visual effects studios will present about the expertise, art, and techniques behind the creation of the year's most anticipated films.

Interfaces, input devices, systems of engagement, and robotics actualize the most imaginative, innovative, and creative research in computer graphics and interactive techniques. The Emerging Technologies program provides hands-on demonstrations, supported by talks about the techniques behind it.

Naturally occurring phenomena occur in the world we live in. Science, technology and art converge to enrich artistic expressions of nature and provide novel elements for conveying the sophisticated philosophy of existence, growth, and evolution in our natural world.

Themed Convergence this year, the SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 Art Gallery invites artists from around the world to showcase their innovative and leading-edge digital contributions on the aesthetics and meaning of nature through a myriad of mediums and techniques.

The premier and most innovative computer animation festival in the world. An internationally recognized jury receives hundreds of submissions and presents the best work of the year in daily Animation Theater and Electronic Theater screenings.

Selections include outstanding achievements in time-based art, scientific visualization, visual effects, real-time graphics, and narrative shorts. This year, look out for a 3D virtual fashion show put together from research based on original clothes.

The Posters program is an interactive forum for innovative ideas that are not yet fully polished, high-impact practical contributions, and offer a behind-the-scenes view of new commercial and artistic work, as well as cool "tricks" that solve challenging problems.

Contributors are expected to exhibit graphic displays of incremental, preliminary, partial, and innovative insights that are important but not fully developed. Posters are displayed throughout the conference days in a high-traffic area within the convention centre. They will be organized in sessions by technical areas or thematic focus. Presenters will also discuss their work in scheduled sessions.

The Symposium on Apps program at SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 aims to cover the development, technology, and marketing of mobile applications, including but not limited to computer graphics software and hardware, games, augmented reality, location-based services, animation, and social networking.

This year's program will put more emphasis on graphics and replace "motion tracking" with more generic categories. Similarly, the program will reflect what actually appeared at last year's Symposium on Apps, which included several augmented reality applications.

The SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 Technical Briefs program is a new initiative and will be a premier international forum for new research results in graphics, especially at the intersections of graphics with audio, image, video, and human-computer interaction.

Leading international experts from over the world will present their results in peer-reviewed research spanning a wide range of research areas including, but not limited to sensor-based human-computer interaction, graphics and human-computer interface, high-dynamic range imaging, high-definition imaging, 3D imaging, image processing for graphics, high-dynamic range and high-definition video, 3D video, 3D audio, mixed reality, augmented reality, virtual reality, and graphics and multimedia. Accepted papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library, and indexed by EI.

The SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 Technical Papers program is a premier international forum for presenting new research results in computer graphics and interactive techniques. All papers appear in the journal ACM Transactions on Graphics (TOG). Leading international experts from all over the world present the best results in peer-reviewed research spanning a wide range of research areas.
