Control Theory

Control theory is an entire branch of maths and engineering dedicated to the development of various algorithms and systems for dealing with the sensory input, processing, and decision of action by embodied artificial systems that reside in dynamic environments.

In other words, how to code, structure and train artificial intelligent systems to react to changing circumstances.

A Theory of Objects
Theory of objects states that 'the best all-around explanation for the occurrence of sensations is the existence of a world of external things'. Thereby, as simulators become more sensory, they become an actual reality.

MUD Character Behaviour & Economic Theory
Previously hosted on "The journal of virtual Environments", this brief but pointed article shows how economic theory can be used to explain the behaviour of player characters. Thought provoking.

Scientific Realism
Theory of Objects taken to its scientific extreme says that every real object has physical properties that do this, that, and the other. This opposing argument for virtual objects as being the same, points out that everything we 'know' about many physical objects is actually inferred from theory, and we 'know' little at all.

The book is based round the concept of the network is not the great equaliser, an egalitarian construct that has, since the Internet became a powerful social force, begun to spread out into all works of life, with network-centric organisation. Instead, the authors state that the exploit ? a direct reference to the hacker term ? is a common corporate and subversive means of taking quiet control of the flow and direction of networks.

Virtual Voice: Using BMI to Control an Artificial Larynx
A larynx or voicebox is a complex piece of kit to control. Creating an interface for a fully functional artificial one may be beyond us - unless we jack it straight into the brain, and let the nervous system control the new, just the same as the old.
