Fog Gradient

The fog gradient is a measure sometimes used in virtual environments to hide the back clipping plane from view. Objects next to the viewpoint have a fog gradient of 0, a value of 255 or similar is just in front of the far clipping plane, then values slowly flow incrementally from one to the other. The higher the value, the more ?foggy? and indistinct an object seems.
