Function Representation

Function representation is the process of representing primitive 3D models ? spheres, cubes, cuboids, cones, pyramids and other such structures via a mathematical function, rather than using a mesh to create them. Objects created in this manner con often be quickly and efficiently mathematically combined, without having to traverse mesh nodes.

Bards
The bard has long been considered a major 'class' for Role-Played environments - the songster, the joker, and usually, the class overlooked in actual function and responsibility.

This short resource, reproduced with the permission of OBOD, looks at the true function of the bard, throughout history, and into the future.

Sol Bianca: The Legacy – Take on Virtual Schooling
A surprising find from an old anime space opera released in 1999. The main plot and most of the episodes have nothing to do with VR, but this well-done representation of how a VR school is created for kids in remote locations - and why it is created this way, is a little gem that is well worth remembering as we strive to create these interfaces for real.

Standards > MedX3D
The Medical Working Group of the X3D consortium is developing an open interoperable standard for human anatomy representation. This standard works with multiple types of scans (CAT, MRI, PET, and others), and allows equipment manufacturers to be able to export data collected from the scanning machines into a shared data format.

Spatial Representation of a Virtual World
How do you perceive space and spatial relationships between objects in a virtual environment. Rather easily if you are setting out to replicate the physical world. But that is too easy, it loses so many of the true advantages of VR, where space is irrelevant, and every room can be a TARDIS. This article looks at mapping that kind of a mess, beginning with text worlds, where such spatial irrelevancy is at its highest.
