Raster
Raster data is a method of storing information as a 2D matrix of cells.
Raster data creates images known as bitmaps ? literally, a map of bits. They are used for texture files, height maps, light maps, and other applications where detail of a fixed, and unchanging size is required.
Raster data suffers when it is resized. This is because it is a map of points. The only way to reduce it in size is to remove points, resulting in a loss of information. When a raster is enlarged, it pixelates as there is no new data to add, the points just become larger.
