Robotic Reconnaissance Vehicle

A robotic reconnaissance vehicle, sometimes called an R3V (with the prefix ?remote? making up the third R) or RRV, is any autonomous or semi-autonomous robotic system which is deployed by military or law enforcement, to reconnoitre an area prior to sending specialised forces in.

They may be land, air or sea based, and increasingly are entrusted with their own navigation and exploration decisions.

SWORDS - Special Weapons Observation Reconnaissance Detection Systems - & Robotic Warfare
Whenever you ask someone about robots being used to kill people, they almost without fail, think of the Terminator movies. Those few that don't, usually think of Star Wars droids, or other humanoid killing machines. Currently, we barely have two legged robots that can handle office buildings or race tracks, so these fantasies are still just fantasies. Robots deployed in war, to kill the enemy, that, is not a fantasy, and more are being produced every year.

The Media Vehicle, is a serious take on VR interfacing, however it is not a serious commercial device. The unit is, for lack of a better phrase, an ?art tool?. It exists to showcase what is currently possible in 2009, not as a device which expects a practical market.

Augmented Reality Sensor Web for the Road: Real-Time Ice Location
The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has created what is essentially, a scalable, modular road ice sensor network, designed to work with all types of heavy goods vehicle, and to communicate with any other technology also in place on the vehicle's data bus - drawing GPS data from other devices and interfacing with satelite navigation systems and in-cabin displays to warn the driver of approaching ice.

Large Image Display: Animatrix: The Second Renaissance: Robotic 'Clones'
As robotic systems become more sophisticated, they ? as is beginning to happen now ? are able to assume a slowly increasing number of jobs once held by humans. This freeing up of humans for other tasks is all well and good, except that for some individuals it is very hard for them to do something else, and this creates significant resentment.

Here we see 'Teddy', the faithful robotic companion of our robotic child protagonist throughout the film. Mum has just taken him out of his box, placed him on the floor, and turned him on. He is revealed here to be a fully articulate, yet still light, soft and furry humanoid robot, intended to double as a teddy bear.
