Virtopsy

A virtual autopsy or virtopsy (pleural virtopsies) is an autopsy that does minimal damage to the body and involves no cutting. Instead, a 3D scan of the surface of the body from all angles is taken, and combined with a detailed CT scan of the inside of the cadaver. These two datasets are then combined into a single 3D dataset, from which 3D models of various parts are created, resized and dissected as the coroner directs.

The VR interface is thus used for the vast majority of the autopsy, with tissue biopsies performed via precise needle usage at locations suggested by the virtual autopsy to be significant.
