eSports

eSports is also known as Electronic Sports. Primarily it means using a computer-mediated gameworld as the facilitator for a sporting activity. In other words, interfacing with the computer and letting the competitors minds, resourcefulness and reactions along with a dose of luck determine the outcome of the activity, rather than any inherent physical skill or muscle tone.

Primarily at time of writing, eSports is dominated by professional gamers, and the computer gaming industry. However, in principle at least, there is no reason a more traditional or fully-immersive virtual environment could not be (and indeed is not being) used the same way.
