3D accelerator A 3D accelerator is literally something which accelerates the drawing and performance of rendered 3D graphical scenes. Typically it refers to hardware - processors and circuitry developed specifically to handle graphics routines. Hardware dedicated to a task is always faster than software running on generic hardware, so specific hardware accelerates purpose-written software's execution time.
