3D projection

3D projection is the final means of display of a rendered image, whether real-time or non real-time, whenever a flat display medium such as a monitor or TV screen is involved.

The 3D points of each visible, non occluded, non culled object in the view frustum, are mapped to points along a single 2D plane, rather than remaining in pure 3D form.

Not all display methods require 3D projection ? direct retinal display, for example, does not require it. Only methods that require the medium of a flat display screen which the eye looks upon, require this projection process.
