An Artificial intelligence program, or 'bot' designed to log into a world, in much the same way as other participants, attempting to behave similarly.

Currently in their infancy, agent programs can often fool players into believing that they are interfacing with another physical player, rather than purely virtual AI.

The study of multi-agent systems or MAS focuses on systems in which many intelligent agents interact with each other. These agents are considered to be autonomous entities such as software programs or robots.

In this specific case, automation Scientists Fredrik Danielsson and Bo Svensson of University West in Sweden, have created an automation system where such robot arms make their own decisions and adapt to external circumstances.
