Alpha Transparency

Alpha transparency uses the alpha channel of a texturemap?s bitmap file to set a high value for transparency of the image. A value between 0 and 1 is stored in an alpha channel. 0 is fully transparent, 1 is fully solid.

Because the value is not 1, occlusion culling will not occur on a properly rendered virtual environment. Instead the texture on the object gives the object as seen from that angle, the appearance of glass, or other transparent material, tinting the appearance of objects behind, which are not culled.
