Bounding Swept Sphere

A bounding swept sphere is essentially a shape reminiscent of the hole left behind when a sphere moves along a short, straight line, A cylinder, rounded at either end. It is used to cover a smaller, more complex 3D polygonal object, matching the shape as closely as possible without deforming its own structure. This then serves as the proxy for that shape in all collision detection algorithms. This method is far cheaper computationally than using the shape itself, where each facet would have to be considered individually.
