CAPTCHA

The CAPTCHAs that are used as combinations of numbers or letters on pictures which a visitor has to re-enter in a text box to prove they are not an AI, actually stand for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.

They are essentially a highly simplified Turing test designed to present a task that humans are usually capable of achieving, and AIs can not. This is also why CAPTCHA methods keep changing. Each time AI overcomes one method of segregation, another must be devised.
