Dark Mapping Dark mapping is essentially the inverse of light mapping. Light mapping is a form of multiple texture texturemapping in which the brightness values calculated from exposure to nearby dynamic lighting, is calculated on a frame by frame basis, and inserted as an additional texture layer onto an object. This gives the illusion that the object is lit by a given lightsource, without having to calculate exactly which parts of it are lit. The fear rises as you reach out for something, anything to grasp on, and through some flailing, you find a smooth wall. ![]() ![]() This resource list groups together all of our resources centred round the 1998 film 'Dark City' and the application of that film's ideas to modern VR. ![]() An in-depth Gamedev article, containing step by step coding advice for implementing parallax occlusion mapping to textures, such that the simulated heights can even self-occlude.
