Domotics was first coined in 1984 by Bruno de Latour, a journalist covering the work in home automation by Apple and Microsoft. It was formed by a concatenation of domestic robotics. It refers to completely automated, integrated smart home segments.

Robots that take their commands from a house main computer, the main computer itself, sensors tied to the smart home environment, it refers to each element or to the whole thing in encapsulation.

This does make domotics a slightly nebulous term, since it has so many meanings; however, it solely refers to automation and integration in the home environment
