Gruebler's Equation

Gruebler's Equation is an equation for defining the motion of n sets of kinematic pairings in any rigid body system.

The equation itself is:

F = 3 (n ? 1) ?2I ? h

Where

F = total degrees of freedom in the mechanism
n = number of links (including the pivot)
l = number of lower pairs (one degree of freedom)
h = number of higher pairs (two degrees of freedom)
