Hotspot

A hotspot is a an interactive location within a virtual environment. Like with most applications a user can click on a hotspot to trigger an event.

However, in a virtual environment, the hotspot can also be triggered by the user pointing at it or even standing upon it, activating it in much the same way. Even an avatar's bodypart touching it counts as a collision and thus an activation.

Hotspots in augmented reality work the same way; existing only in the virtual data layer overlaid on the physical environment. However as unlike with a position within a virtual environment there is typically no way employed to track the user's actual body positions, interaction is usually limited to clicking or pointing, or interaction by those elements that exist solely within the virtual data layer.
