Interactive Synthetic Environment

A synthetic environment is basically any environment that is wholly, or majoritively artificial in nature. This means that every element, or almost every element is fabricated, but not necessarily any less real than a natural element.

An interactive synthetic environment is one in which the environment is not just backdrop for the interaction within it, but is mutable, and changeable by the participants - it responds to the actions of those who enter it.
