Interpolation Interpolation is an imaging method to increase (or decrease) the number of pixels in an image. It is frequently used for terrain generation where the features must get smaller over distance, and so a kind of staggered, layered zoom effect is created via interpolation where the terrain shrinks proportional to it?s distance from the viewpoint.
