Inverse Problem

The Inverse problem as related to neuroprosthetics and BMI, occurs with non-invasive interface brainwave interface methods. It arises as a triangulation problem, tracking back a registered signal, to the part and depth of brain it came from.

The real problem part comes in in that with the brain, an ?approximate? position is not good enough. The position must be as precise as possible. Between brain folds distorting the signal, the skull itself, soft tissue, hair and background noise, inverse tracking of brainwaves nets an almost infinite number of potential solutions.

Thus, a ?best-fit? is usually used, based on previous knowledge of that particular brain?s patterns, and a variety of advanced algorithms.

For SIGGRAPH 2013, one joint research team presented a proof of concept method to solve the 3D printer problem - the ability of any 3D printer to theoretically counterfeit any physical object small enough for it to print.
