Magnetic motion capture does not use cameras. Instead, a network of receiver units is placed across all of the body parts of the user. These receiver units (and the user) are then surrounded by three electromagnetic coils, spaced equally around them. Each of the coils initiates an electromagnetic field, and the receiver units detect the relative intensity of the voltage from each.

Promising work by QuinteQ on real-time motion capture without excessive hardware, holds promise for MoCap use in public VR.
In Lessons from Simone: MoCap Filter , it was discussed how Simone whilst yes she was controlled by Victor?s body movements in a MoCap system, never quite copied those movements perfectly. Whereas Viktor's movements are not always feminine, Simone moves with a permanent feminine grace.
The debut of a new type of magnetic resonance sensor for brainwaves and electrical activity - which changes the game totally for both fMRI and MEG. For the first time ever, portable, low-cost versions of both are actually a possibility.
MoCap - Motion Capture - for all its impressive abilities, has definite limitations in terms of sensory fidelity, the expense and bulk of the rig. Gesture control is cheap and captures every little movement, but easily overwhelmed. Is a hybrid system possible?
The first known, successful implant of an extra sensory perception to detect magnetic fields the person with the new sense was near, occurred in 2005, when a small piece of neodymium, which is a rare earth metal, that forms a permanent magnet, was coated in a thin layer of silicon, and implanted into an emergency medical technician's finger.
Simone is a seminal virtual reality film, and there are several aspects of both the technology of VR and the social impact, which the film carries off very well, and which deserve to stand on their own merits. The MoCap filter the film alludes to, is one such aspect.

There's a challenge facing electronics engineers attempting to build magnetic memory that can store data for more than 10 years or so. The density at which this data is stored depends on the size of the magnetic grains used for this proces...
Magnetic-recording materials used in today's hard disks are reaching their storage limits and will probably max out within five years. Now researchers at Seagate have demonstrated the feasibility of a new technology that could extend the c...
One of the issues afflicting magnetic memory is the fact that it is difficult to store information for as long as 10 years. In order to overcome this problem, scientists and engineers have been looking for a way to increase the density of m...
Birds that navigate using the Earth's magnetic field rely more on their eyes than on the magnetic particles in their nostrils, an experiment on robins suggests.
Rival theories of bird navigation have suggested both mechanism...
A method called ultra-low field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has captured its first, blurry shots of a human brain, revealing activity as well as structure with only a tiny magnetic field.
MRI scanners take their imagesby...
