Network Based Humanoid

Network based humanoid is a term used typically by KIST researchers ? the Korean Institute of Science and Technology ? to describe their approach to robot control systems. With a network based humanoid, a bipedal robot is controlled via external computer systems, networked together with the robot receiving a continual wireless data feed.

This approach has the promise of great flexibility, with multiple robots acting as waldoes of the same system, and the potential for them to be used in telepresence. However, it also offers greater security risks and dangers, as the robot is not a closed system, or stand-alone entity.

The book is based round the concept of the network is not the great equaliser, an egalitarian construct that has, since the Internet became a powerful social force, begun to spread out into all works of life, with network-centric organisation. Instead, the authors state that the exploit ? a direct reference to the hacker term ? is a common corporate and subversive means of taking quiet control of the flow and direction of networks.

A speculative, low scientific content book, focussing on the humorous aspects of life with humanoid robots, cyborg mixtures and pure humans. It examines current technologies up to the end of 2008, and then draws conclusions about possible futures based on sci-fi in film and novels.
