Sprite
A sprite is either a two dimensional graphic made out of pixels, or a three dimensional graphic made out of voxels. They are very similar to texturemaps, except that they are objects in their own right, and were used as modelling objects, before vector based modelling was computationally possible in real-time.
A sprite consists of a 2D grid of squares, or a 3D grid of cubes, of specific dimensions. Each square or cube is given a value. Typically 0 is used for blank. Any other value is assigned to a colour, colouring in that whole cell.
