Stereoscopic Distortion

A stereoscopic distortion occurs when the optics of a stereoscopic display device and the eyes of a user do not mesh perfectly. One or more of the optics is out of alignment with the eyes, and the images are not processed in fusion (combined to form one image in the brain). Instead, there is a distortion effect caused due to the misalignment.

This distortion is often very hard to spot. It is typically easy to tell that something is wrong, but hard to put your finger on exactly what. If it is not corrected, the end result is strain on the eyes due to the unnatural focussing angles, and ultimately headaches and nausea.
