Voice Activity Detection Voice activity detection or VAD, is typically a sub-process of speech recognition. It can of course be used in other ways as well. It functions as a result of analysis software hooked to a microphone, to detect when a human voice is being used. Not so much what is said, just the tonal parameters to indicate the presence or absence of voice. Below, we offer a selection of links from our resource databases which may match this term.

Traditionally this never worked because oncethe neurostimulator activates, it blocks out all underlying brain activity in the area - the implant is only reading itself. In the video below, tunes are played via neuroprosthetics. What you are hearing, sounding eirie and mournful, is quite literally the sound of a healthy human brain working. Different areas were assigned to different notes, and the volume determined by the amount of activity. Areas with very low activity were filtered out entirely.
