Z-Sorting

Z-Sorting is an algorithm used in 3D graphics to determine which objects or parts of objects are visible and which are hidden behind other objects. The Z-sorting algorithm simply displays all objects serially, starting with those objects with the largest Z-axis values. The Z-sorting algorithm does not require a Z-buffer, but is a slow method, and creates problems when two objects intersect. This typically displays as a 'flicker' between the objects as the two compete to render, strobing from one to the other, forcing the renderer to work harder, to render the scene.
