This single still is from the widescreen version of ?Program?, one of the Animatrix animated shorts. It has been considerably scaled back from the original material. It is one of two such large images showing the process of building a Matrix Universe VR world via the process of animation, which makes it clearer to see what is going on and draw parallels to our own methods of building worlds.
To begin with all is blank, a wide empty white plain with absolutely nothing in it. Then, Japanese gates arrive, zooming into infinity from behind the camera and running forwards, they almost feel like a modern VR package for a collaborative persistent world, but with the insert command held down. Each new gate appears behind the other, just as fast as the computer can process.
There are of course savage differences to our methods of building. Each gate is a set difference from the others, without being part of the same model. Perhaps that is built into the simulation, perhaps not. However there is an element of mathematical or algorithmic placement strongly hinted at, which is something our methods for world building do not yet have, although there are strong reasons for why they should.
Continued in part two.
