This strange being is based within the African continent, near
the sources of the rover Nile. Appearing as a small, winged buffalo,
covered in the scales of a dragon, the Catoblepas is a lonely and
isolated creature. Its head is so heavy that it is unable to lift
is and so the beast must drag its face across the ground, and even
were this not the case it would be unable to do so, as it possesses
a mane of stiff bristly hair that covers its face and prevents movement.
It is rumoured that a single gaze from the Catoblepas can kill and
creature, but the source of this myth is unknown since the manner
in which the creature is never able to look up means that it has
never killed anyone with such a gaze.
The Catoblepas is thought to be a timid beast that desires little
more than solitude. It feed on poisonous plants and weeds that are
considered to be deadly to other creatures.
