The Acheri is a ghostly figure, from native American society. The spirit of a young girl, she lives in the mountains, but often descends at night, to the fires of human settlements.

There, shrouded by darkness, she dances or sings, always touched by sadness or despair. To see her dance or hear her song is thought to be an omen of death or disease descending.

Red, the colour, is thought to be a protective talisman against such power. If you wear red, and your dwelling wears red, you are safe from her powers, safe from inflicted death or disease.
