The Keyboard

The massive, twin keyboard in the centre of the room is the real gem of this school however. Designed for two participants, it can be used by just one if desired. It consists of a column to one side with common words strung down it. Next to this column are two keyboards, facing one another with two screens in front of them, the onr on the right of the operator closer than the one on the left.

Looking at the keyboard, every letter or word in white surrounded by blue is a button. Pushing on it will result in the correct hand symbol to appear on the display to the right, both showing towards you so you can see what you are signing and from the other side of the display, across the table to the person you are communicating with.

At the same time, the display to the operator?s left is showing the output of the keyboard across from them in the exact same manner, allowing full signing communication. For more complex signing, such as the common words, the displays will also show a full upper body to be sure of conveying the correct effect.
