One of the core foundations of virtual worlds is that, upon entering one, you use a virtual body to explore and interact within it. Therefore, no-one else from that world knows what your real body is like, or anything about you, that you do not choose to tell them.

Gender, and the psychological aspects of it, acts as one of the greatest separations between different persons. This section looks at the intrigue, and difficulty of playing a gender well when within a virtual world, whether that gender is your own, or not.
