This book is an introductory level coverage of AI. Specifically it covers methods and algorithms that allow computer programs to automatically improve through experience. Intended for upper level undergraduate and introductory level graduate courses in machine learning, it is understandably light on content in many areas.

Another potential gripe is the age of the book. It was written in 1997, and well, in the intervening twelve years, even the basics of AI have moved on a long way. Still, for basic introductory academia, or to cover a history of where AI has come from, and perhaps more importantly, why you would choose one approach over another, this is still a good book.
