VR Interfaces: CyberMan GVD510-3D

Overview

Overview of CyberMan GVD510-3D
Released December 2005, the CyberMan GVD510-3D head-mounted display is a stereoscopic display unit, with a resolution of 640 x 480. Made by Kopin Corporation, China, this unit is essentially part of the new trend of video eyewear, combining HUD and HMD in one device.

It offers, in much the same way as all video eyewear, the ability to see a screen suspended in front of your eyes, whilst leaving peripheral vision free to look around. This one claims to offer a 40-inch flat-panel screen at a distance of seven feet, as far as your eyes are concerned.

Compatible with both Direct3D and OpenGl, the GVD510 takes the all too rare nowadays step of appealing to both the home user and the serious simulation markets. The headset uses a signal format that is available on NVIDIA-based graphics cards for fast market penetration.

The eyewear?s driver software will auto-scale VGA screens to fit the display parameters, meaning your main PC can run in a higher display resolution, and the unit will do the best it can, to fit it all in rather than just showing a corner of the screen.

Should they be required, both composite video and S-Video input are accepted, S-Video being the type produced by the Xbox family, as well as the Playstation 2 & 3.
