Gaze-Directed Steering

Gaze-Directed Steering is a travel method for inside virtual environments. It works by tracking the position of the user's head - not the eyes - and the direction the head points, determines travel direction.

The disadvantage of this is the user is unable to look around whilst they move. Additionally, some method of telling the world when they desire to start/stop moving is necessary.

Sol Bianca: The Legacy – Take on Gaze-Directed Neural-controlled Weaponry
A surprising find from an old anime space opera released in 1999. The main plot and most of the episodes have nothing to do with VR, but this element does. It is by far the most comprehensive and well thought out brain-machine-interface controlled firearm, we have ever come across in any genre of televised fiction. It would actually function as shown, using modern interface technology.

In order to appreciate the true majesty of any virtual environment, you require the most apt hardware for displaying sensory data that you can afford. For the most part, this article is directed towards home uses of VR.
