Planar Map

A planar map is a method for encoding a topographical map into a single plane. A planar map subdivides the plane into vertices, edges, and faces, which undergo certain rules to ensure they cannot sink any lower into the surface of the object, than the original plane.

In this way, additional detail can be rendered on an object visually, without affecting functions such as collision detection which rely on the object?s assumed shape.
