Voxel Sculpting

Voxel Sculpting is a voxel (3D pixel) based method of creating volumetric models. Unlike mesh models, these are like blocks of clay. The space filled entirely with three-dimensional pixels, and no hollow space in the centre. Thus, just like clay, it is possible to model by sculpting a voxel block - carving gouges out and teasing the material.

Whilst virtual, the modelling package used will react like the model is clay, imparting physics onto it, and allowing models to be produced in an extremely intuitive fashion.

Voxel sculpting is often combined with full VR hardware interface rigs to allow the modeller to feel the ?virtual clay? as they work. Once completed, the model may stay as a voxel sculpture, or be converted to a mesh-based model for import into other virtual environments.

The Art Models series is three books long and growing. This, the first of the volumes, is the largest. Like the ones that follow it, there are no ultra-skinny models, but a variety of what would be considered average body types, posed nude with no censorship whatsoever.

Creating Realistic Terrain: Grasslands
Creating realistic terrain involves more than simply sculpting out a feature and plonking it on the landscape. To truly create a believable landscape, the process of natural grassland formation has to be understood, else grasslands may be placed in locations they have no place being.

Creating Realistic Terrain: Mountains
Creating realistic terrain involves more than simply sculpting out a feature and plonking it on the landscape. To truly create a believable landscape, the process of natural mountain formation has to be understood else Mountain ranges may be formed in places that simply make no sense, or worse, disrupt the sense of locations around them.
