3D Participation

3D Participation as a term, describes holistically, all environments which involve three dimensional spatial axis. An avatar for the personification of a given user, is most often considered an optional extra.

Virtual Environment For Dentistry - VDITS
The Virtual Dental Implant Training Simulation Program or VDITS is designed to help students in diagnostics, decision making and treatment protocols. However, its use is ultimately limited because VDITS is a fishbowl VR interface, not an immersive one - it expects participation via monitor screen, mouse and keyboard, rather than a full on virtual experience, at least at this stage.

This is glorious fiction at this point in time, and serves as a reminder of just how far we have yet to travel, for serious collaborative uses of VR. Only when scenes such as the one pictured above are replicable in terms of avatar participation density, will we truly see the business and social potential for VR, realized.
