Baking

Baking is part of the creation of textures for 3D polygonal objects. When you create a multi-layer texture by using multiple textures, light maps, bump maps and so forth into a unique map you are happy with, you bake it to reduce to a single file that contains all the information required to apply the exact same effects to other objects.
