CVS
Computer vision syndrome or CVS, is also sometimes known as digital eye fatigue or DEF. However, the difference between the two terms is a matter of degree. Whilst DEF marks the problems with the eye created by by gazing at a digital image for too long a time, CVS is a much more serious condition, created essentially by repeated DEF over a period of years, resulting in permanent damage to the ocular system.
With digital eye fatigue, the ocular muscles constantly flex to refocus perceived distance. Unfortunately, the perceived distances in a 3D landscape projected on a 2D display system, are not physically further away. Additionally, the eye focuses on the hard edge of an image, but digital images don't have a clean edge. As a result, the focus drifts forward and back, causing eye fatigue.
Over a long period of time ? a matter of years, the compound damage adds up to such a point, that degeneration of the eye has been found to speed up by a decade or more, in comparison to individuals who have never regularly used digital display systems.
