Directional Light Source

In any virtual environment, light is vital for accurate rendering of both illumination and of shadows. Without both, you lose the visual 3D effect.

A directional light source is a global light, across the whole environment, which is treated as being at an infinite distance. Typically, suns and other stellar objects that cast light upon a world are such sources. The direction corresponding to their height in the sky at the time.
