Dirt Map A Dirt Map is a texture map laid over the base texture of an object, to indicate dirty regions. Typically a dirt map is an ambient occlusion map, which are normally used as a light map for a whole area. Instead of being used to place light and shadow, this same map applied to a surface is then used for cleanliness, with white being clean, black being filthy, and shades of grey being everything in between.
