Geometrical optics

Geometrical optics, sometimes-termed ray optics is the study of how light waves propagate in the physical world. Because it offers a level of simple abstraction away from the physical how of propagation, it forms an ideal set of equations for modelling how light will propagate in a raytraced or raycast rendered environment.

Optics and Neuroprosthetics
A new tack in neuroprosthetic interfaces is being born out of pulses of light rather than electricity. Termed 'optogenetic neuromodulation, the technique is being pioneered in the hope that it will enable a far greater level of accuracy and single-cell stimulation than is possible with electrode interfaces.

Non virtual, Virtual Simulator
Researchers at the Max Planck institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany, have created a first of its kind: A virtual reality simulator that does not actually create simulations in VR-space. Instead, they exist in physical dimensions, just not exactly normal matter.

Fast Adaptive Optics for 3D Medical Imaging
One of the greatest problems with tomography based medical scanners, is what happens when the patient moves (breathes, or pumps blood). The distortion that occurs in each slice has long been correctable, but takes a long time to correct. With near-instant correction now possible, real-time medical scanning is starting to look like a true possibility.
