Geomorphology
Geomorphology is the scientific study of landforms and the processes that shape them. As such, geomorphic studies are of great importance to the creation of virtual environments: specifically building and terraining virtual environments.
Once it is understood how a given physical feature forms, and the mathematics behind it?s formation, it is usually a short step to being able to create a set of algorithms for reproducing perfectly natural looking landforms of the same type, in a virtual environment.
