IAD

An Intelligent Assist Device or IAD refers to any robotic device that possesses sensors capable of registering its environment, is capable of making decisions based on the output of those sensors, and works as a cobot, usually in an industrial or research setting.

Typically they are robotic arms that work with human workers to increase productivity and handle loads a human alone would not be able to manage, as opposed to independent units.

Additionally, the American Robotics Industry Association defines an Intelligent Assist Device as any 'single or multiple axis device that employs a hybrid programmable computer-human control system to provide human strength amplification, guiding surfaces or both'.
