Machinima

Machinima, derived from a concatenation of ?machine cinema? is a subset of CGI that has emerged at the beginning of the 21st century. It uses real-time animation from computer games, or virtual environments, combined with voiceovers to create low-budget animation.

Machinima lacks the polish of pre-rendered animation productions, but instead gains almost the same level of flexibility as live-action film making, but without the low-budget look of live-action, home made, low budget films.

Machinima is an example of emergent gameplay, a process of putting game tools to unexpected ends, and of artistic virtual environment modification.
