Magnetic MoCap

Magnetic motion capture does not use cameras. Instead, a network of receiver units is placed across all of the body parts of the user. These receiver units (and the user) are then surrounded by three electromagnetic coils, spaced equally around them. Each of the coils initiates an electromagnetic field, and the receiver units detect the relative intensity of the voltage from each.

An advantage of this system is that unlike most camera less motion capture systems, it is self-correcting. Errors do not compound over time. The disadvantages are of course standing inside an intense electromagnetic field, and the risk to health for both the user and the computer system.
