Mechanical motion capture does not use cameras. Instead, a network of sensors is placed on all the body parts of the user. These sensors work by detecting the relative motion of each joint, and one sensor system is applied to every joint on the body. They function like a web, directing data, usually wirelessly, to a central computer system which builds up a map of changes in bodily position on a real-time basis.
