Metadata

Metadata is data about data. It is used to organise and structure the other data, often making it easier to search through.

Metadata tagging can help search through vast number of files, by comparing the aspects they have in common. For example, searching an immense texture database, looking for those textures which have the metadata of ?planed wood?.
